New golfing development in the works for South Africa

4.5.2011

Those with luxury villas in South Africa may soon have yet another option when they look to hit the links, as Golf Inc. magazine reports work on a new course near Cape Town is underway.

The new club will be located on what's known as Two Rivers Farm in the town of Franschhoek - found about 40 minutes east of the big city. The magazine says the development is being led by Iain Banner, who formerly was known as a managing director at the Gary Player Design Company.

An existing cottage on the property will be transformed into a modern clubhouse for the facility. The course may not be too much longer under construction. The source says its driving range is actually already open for play.

The new course will only add to the strong golfing heritage available to those with luxury villas in South Africa. Departures columnist Thomas Dunne calls the Leopard Creek Country Club in Krugger National Park an intriguing course, combining golfing with African wildlife in a setting he calls "surreal."
