Continuing to reinforce its place as a premier Caribbean destination among those looking at beach villas around the globe, the island of Jamaica has earned yet another top travel award.

The Jamaica Observer reports the island was recently recognized at the Best Emerging Tourism Market by the Pacific Area Travel Writers Association. Local officials were honored by the continued recognition.

"It has been a significant and proud year for Jamaica in terms of being recognized by many of our peers for our tourism product offering and this award for Best Emerging Tourism Market by PATWA is no exception," said Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett, according to the paper.

The Observer also noted that during a speech at the event, Bartlett focused on the mission of continuing to strive for eco-friendly tourism that would maintain the beautiful beaches and landscapes the island has long been known for.

Jamaica also took top honors at last year's World Travel awards. It received a number of honors, including Montego Bay's distinction as the top overall beach destination in the world.
